Junior Development and Competition Program

The DEVO and COMP program is an early development program for cross-country ski racing. This is an excellent training program for athletes participating in other sports or who want to stay active in their "off" season. The goal of the program is to introduce and develop cross-country ski skills, promote general fitness, and create a love of the sport to last a lifetime. Extensive ski experience is not necessary, just an interest to get outside, get moving and have fun. It is important at this early stage of development to start ski specific training and to participate in a broad base of activities. Development of motor skills and coordination is ultimately very important if the athlete decides to concentrate on skiing. Program activities include skate and classic skiing, running, mountain biking, ski walking, bounding, roller skiing, games, and strength training. Training sessions are held two to three days a week to allow athletes to participate in multiple sports. Devo coaches design practices that are challenging and most of all FUN! As the athlete matures, training will become more ski specific. This program's focus is to develop well-rounded athletes. We are here to help athletes achieve dreams, whether it is excelling on the school cross country team, qualifying for Junior Nationals, skiing in College or making the Olympic Team.

Year-Round Development and Competition Program

TCCSEA coaching staff will lead athletes in workouts that combine strength conditioning, roller skiing, running, hiking and other fun outdoor adventures intended to build fitness and focus for the coming cross-country competition season. Open to all athletes 6th-12th grade. Sessions will be divided by ability levels to ensure appropriate workouts while at the same time maintaining a fun team environment.

TCCSEA encourages athletes to attend Far West Nordic camps: Visit www.farwestnordic.org

Athletes will meet the TCCSEA van at Tahoe XC Ski Area and will be transported to workouts. Due to the size of our team, we will require parent volunteers to help transport athletes on training days. Locations range from the Tahoe City and West Shore areas plus the Truckee area for combined workouts with the Auburn Ski Club group.

In general athletes will need classic and skate skis, poles and boots, trail running shoes, all weather clothing, water bottle holder, helmet, pads, XC boots and poles for roller skiing, etc.
