    Ever since a series of major forest fires hit our region, including the Caldor Fire which burned all the way from near Placerville to South Lake Tahoe, the issue of our overly dense forests leading to more conflagrations has been a top concern for the region.

  • It's the Most Wonderful Time to Ride

    While riding the Tahoe XC trails today I was reminded that the next six weeks are perhaps the most wonderful time to be riding the trails. The thunderstorms have wet down the dust creating brown pow, the trails are quieter during this time as families go back to the routine of school, mosquitos apparently are also going back to school because they are disappearing, and the temperatures between now and the end of September are smack dab in the middle of the Goldilocks zone–not too hot, not too cold.

  • The Trails of Old: Remembering Past Tahoe XC Trails.

    There has been a network of ski trails where Tahoe XC is located since the mid-1970s, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there were some trails, or portions of trails, that were skied on in the past that no longer exist. Here are a few that my admittedly imperfect brain recalls. For confirmation I contacted long-time groomer extraordinaire Doug McNair to take a walk down memory lane.
