The Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) is a nonprofit 501©(3) corporation whose mission is to promote the sport of cross country skiing through educational activities for children and adults.
In 1999, the TCCSEA Board of Directors, consisting of several local residents, business owners, coaches and athletes, entered a concession agreement with the Tahoe City Public Utility District to operate Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area. Over the past decade, Tahoe Cross Country has established itself as one of the top ski areas in the United States.
Through the partnership with the Tahoe City Public Utility District, Tahoe Cross Country provides several educational programs to its community members. The Strider Gliders After-School Ski Program is an 8-week program that includes ski instruction, equipment use for the entire winter, and ski trail access, all for a nominal fee, thanks to over 2,000 hours of community support donated each season. The Winter Discovery Center provides a place-based science/ski program to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from the Lake Tahoe region. Free Skiing for Schools Program provides free skiing to teachers and their students, giving all children the opportunity to participate in winter physical activity. These are examples of the programs that have been developed over the years. This has been possible through the countless hours of work donated by members of the community.
Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association provides school children in the community with a unique opportunity to not only learn and participate in a sport that will provide lifelong enjoyment and health benefits but also can provide motivated individuals with a foundation for world class competitive training. Many young athletes from the area move on to competition at the national and international level in Nordic skiing. TCCSEA supports its local Nordic ski team from North Tahoe Middle and High Schools by providing free trail access, coaching support and ski equipment.
For the day skier visiting the Tahoe area, Tahoe Cross Country offers an high quality recreation experience for all ability levels. The 65 kilometer trail system is machine groomed daily with state of the art Prinoth snow groomers. Twenty one separate trails lead skiers and snowshoers through beautiful Ponderosa Pine and White Fir forest, into open meadows, and up to stunning views of Lake Tahoe and its surrounding peaks. 3 trailside warming huts provide ideal locations for getting out of the weather, enjoying a break and a free hot chocolate or tea. 8 kilometers of dog friendly trails allow families to include the entire family during their visit to the snow for healthy outdoor recreation. Join us at Tahoe Cross Country this season.
